Double Trouble!

Good Morning Splodgers,

I hope you are all well today and getting ready for the weekend as its Friday!

Today we are lucky enough to be showcasing Carol and Zoe's fabolous work. They have both made bookmarks aswell!

Zoe has used the versatile 'Fantasy Fairy Stenskape' to produce this beautiful booktag.

"I have made a bookmark for me "Through the mask" sample! I used sheet music, then inked through the flower from the "Fantasy Fairy Stenskape" set using Distress inks, then once dry through the mask I used Maimeri Gloss Gel, once dry, lightly inked with black soot! I included a second more close up photo to show the sheen and dimension"

Thank you Zoe, I think this is beautiful x

Carol has also been busy creating another stunning bookmark using the 'Floral Border'.

"I have chosen to work on with a section of a mask and use the Gesso Squelch Technique which I so love. You can create so much texture with this technique. It is the first time I have attempted it THROUGH a mask but it worked really well all bar a few small areas where I was  a little over enthusiastic with pressing the sheets together!!!!!

I began by applying the Gesso over the mask and about a centimetre outside of my chosen area, using a spatula. The next step was to cover a similar sized are of blank card with a liberal coating of more Gesso. ( The thicker the Gesso the greater the texture). The mask was left on and the two pieces of card placed on top of each other, Gesso sides together, to sandwich the mask. A brayer was used over the top and run in all directions. The top card was then peeled away to leave a rippled effect, then the mask was removed. This area has no Gesso and is easy to highlight.

The next stage was to dry the Gesso on quite a high heat with a heat gun so that the Gesso bubbles and gives even more texture!
Finally the whole was coloured using distress inks in various shades and the textured and raised areas were given a highlight of cosmic shimmer. Loved trying this technique with the mask and hope you will have a go to. It's a very simple but I think quite an effective use of the masks. Hope you enjoyed seeing it."

Thank you Carol for a stunning showcase!!

Today also marks Holly turning 6 months, I honestly don't know where the time has gone. When she was born everybody told me to cherish every minute as it would fly by and I thought noooo it won't......how wrong was I!

To celebrate we are going to have a blog giveaway...all you need to do is follow the blog and leave a comment and a winner will be drawn on Monday. Tom is also having a facebook giveaway on SplodgeAway so get yourself over!!

Have a lovely weekend and thank you so much to Zoe and Carol for your amazing samples,

Susan x x

  2. Wow, she has grown up and how beautiful she still is!! Yes, time does fly with children when they are so young it doesn't get any slower either lol. I have 2 daughters, now 32 (on Sunday) & 16 (new relationship after 4 years as a single parent). Now a single parent again to the 16 yr old I wish I had paid more attention to both daughters younger life but both of their younger lives were quite different even though I lived as a single parent to both daughters. That's for another story though.
My very warmest wishes for a very happy life for Holly & both you & Tom.

  4. Lovely projects Zoe and Carol.
Can't believe it's six months since Holly was born. My dad always said to enjoy every minute in a small childs life because it really is the best time in your life. My children are 42 and 40 now and yes, when I look back, their childhood was the best part of my life.
    Love Val x

  6. Would you believe that it's the first time i have seen a picture of your beautiful daughter Holly. How time flies eh? I was in the shop this morning chatting (and buying) to Tom's mum about her. She told me about your blog so here I am. These bookmarks look gorgeous and such a good idea as I always use a torn piece of the newspaper to keep my place in my latest novel. How fantastic would one of these look. Pauline x
