Carol and her Abstraktz project.

How are you all today? Are you having a great week? I hope so, my feet are still recovering from Sunday..I must get fit!!

This week we are showcasing the amazing DT team and the SplodgeAway Abstraktz 8x8" Masks.

Today Carol is going to showcase her beautiful Abstrakt project.

Hi Everyone,

Here are a couple of cards made with the Abstraktz Mask from SplodgeAway. I have used the same mask in both but have tries to create a very different feel to them. These masks are great for background but also as the main feature to a project.

 

This card was designed using the mask. distress inks and little else, but goes to show I think how you can build the card with a limited amount of work or materials!!

Card was cut to size to fit the mask and completely covered with forest moss distress ink and then highlighted in some areas with Spiced Marmalade. A second piece of card was treated in the same way but using Scattered Straw highlighted with crushed Olive. The white backgrounds of each were toned down a little with the lighter of the two colours.

The backgrounds were then cut into 6cms squares. ( I put both pieces together through the guillotine but it was a real jigsaw fitting them back in the right place!!!! LOL) The squares were mounted as shown onto gold and green cardstock, using an alternating pattern. All that was left to do was add the flowers and gems.
Hope you like the design and will have a go at chopping about some of your masks to see what effects you can come up with!!! Have a feeling in seasonal colours that I might use this for a modern Christmas look this year"

"The second card is completely different but using the same mask.

Had such fun messing about with water and distress inks, paint brushes and sponges to create a really random background here. I was intent on introducing as much colour to contrast with the stark background for added effect.

I used the Mask of Many Faces as a stencil and cut the background out, which was then masked off with the Abstraktz mask and coloured in Black Soot Distress ink, for a stark contrast. I  had no quick way for the next step so with a black fine liner and ruler set about drawing the horizontal and vertical lines as shown. I lay the face onto the lines, slightly forward of its final position and drew around it to stress the outline. ( I wish now I had done this BEFORE drawing the lines!! )

Finally used a free little stamp to stamp out the wording.. VISAGE, which I thought was appropriate.
