Angela's Through The Mask!

Good Morning Splodgy Splodgers,

How are you today? Thank you for calling in to see Angela's beautiful project today.The work from the DT work this week is great.

"Here is my project for the Through the Mask week. I used perfect medium through a Fancy Frame Mask over the top of the paint and then embossed that with clear embossing powder. I then used glitter glue through the Flower Framer mask."

What has Jayne been putting through her mask?

Good Morning Splodgy Splodgers,

How are you all today? Hello to our new followers. I was checking the statistics of the blog last night, we have visitors from America, Germany, Italy, Spain and other countries so thank you to everybody who visits the SplodgeAway Blog and views the amazing work from the DT Team.

Today Jayne is sharing her wonderful project for the 'Through Your Mask' week

"I love squishing different mediums through my Splodgeaway masks. The only problem is I forget to stop!"



"This was created with various SplodgeAway Masks. The base was dry-brushed acrylic paint covered with a wash of dye based ink. I used tumbled glass distress ink sponged lightly through the flower mask and outlined it with a white gel pen. This faded into the background to create a subtle texture. I then used  snow-tex coloured with re-inker and scraped it through the mask which resulted in a bold circles pattern. As this overpowered the piece a little once it was dry I sanded some of it back, softening the look and left just a few bolder parts."

"I like the fact that loads of texture and interest can be added with just a few masks and a few different mediums. I love the overall ‘faded’ look of this piece. Hope you like it and are inspired to experiment  yourselves!" Thanx for looking , Hugz, Jayne xxx

Though The Mask!

Good Morning Splodgers,

Well my plan worked....hung all of the washing outside and it finally rained..yippee. Now the sun may come back out with a little bit of fresh air.

I hope you all enjoyed the 'Summer Loving' week, quite apt for the lovely weather we had. Today is the start of a new week....

'Through the Mask'

So what do you use through your mask? Inks, sprays, embossing, doodling?? Well this week the DT team are going to share their projects and show us what they put through their masks.

Claire has sponged paint through the SplodgeAway Mask to create this brilliant ATC.

I used several different colours of paperartsy fresco paints on the background of the ATC. I then placed the SplodgeAway Swirly Lattice mask onto the ATC and added the blue paint. I then moved the stencil slightly and sponged through with white paint - the fresco white paint is opaque so you can't see the colours underneath therefore creating a shadow effect - this technique is called stencil bumping. I then sanded the ATC a little to distress it and this also allows some of the undercoats of paint to show through. The flower stamp and sentiment are a JOFY mini set and were coloured using the fresco paints also. Stencil bumping is a great technique and you can create some interesting effects by experimenting with different colour combinations.



Claire has done a great job on these ATCs. I have never used the Swirly Lattice Mask but this project has given me some inspiration. Thank you Claire. Check out Claire's blog for more fantastic work.

Zoe and Rae's Summer Loving!

Good Evening Splodgers,

How late am I today!! I do apologise, I try and schedule the blog in advance but I am not doing a good job of it lately so I am really sorry as our DT Team work so hard in getting the pieces in on time.

Today we are showcasing 2 amazing DT members work...Zoe and Rae! Amazing projects as always working on the 'Summer Loving' Theme. I hope the weather is doing what you want today, I am desperate for the rain to clear the stuffy air, infact I have tried jinxing it by putting all of washing on the line :-)

Enough rambling, let's start with Zoe. She does an amazing job of posting her work ontime and it is always of high quality aswell as looking after her foster children (or maybe child, I can't remember) Credit to you Zoe x

Zoe has produced this bright and beautiful canvas that will definately brighten up any day. Zoe has used a combination of SplodgeAway Masks, acrylic paints and gold texture paste.

Rae has also taken a break from her Secret Garden Hammock and produced this fantastic canvas using the Grease song 'Summer Loving' as her inspiration.



'Its a canvas primed in bright acrylics then mounted up. The masks used are Sunburst (obvious reasons - wanted to represent the sun lol!!!); Dotty the Lot; Cut Log and Cracked Mud. The topper is done in distress inks the stamp is Crafty Individuals and the die is MariAnne.

Kathleen's Summer Loving

Good Morning Splodgers,

It's Friday! It's nearly the weekend, I hope the sun shines and you are all doing something fun this weekend. We are taking Holly swimming tonight, she absolutely loves the water. Infact I am currently working on a scrapbook page of her in the sea.

Today Kathleen is showcasing her stunning 'Summer Loving' Project. And it really does brighten the day up!

I used SplodgeAway Easy Ink card, coloured with Mustard Seed Distress Ink and my
 SplodgeAway mat. I used ripe Persimmon through the Dotty Framer Layout mask. I embossed 
the Floral Foundations Flower Creator and sprayed Funky Fuchsia Dylusion Ink before cutting them out. A few
 leaves and pearls finished the flowers off. I inked the bee stamp and quote before using intense
 water colour blocks.  These colours make me feel summery. I hope you do too x

Hazel's Summer Loving Project

Good Morning Splodgy Splodgers,

I hope you are well and enjoying this warm weather. Personally I wish it was thunder up here and clear the air! (Sorry Kay)

Today we are showcasing Hazel's Summer Loving Blog Project. Hazel doesn't have a blog but if you are on Facebook you can find her page under Dragon's  Paper Craft. Hazel posts some beautiful projects on there and hosts regular workshops in her class.



Hazel has used Tim Holtz Distress Inks and SplodgeAway Masks to create this cheerful and bright boxed card. I love this card and it really demonstrated the versatility of the masks. All Hazel has used are masks and inks and it loos great! Hazel has embossed the 8"x8" Super Detailed Floral Framer and then inked over it, Inked 8"x8" Chicked Wire Mask and used it as the aperture, Hazel has then inked through the Butterfly Creator and Floral Foundations Flower Creator and cut out the toppers to create the stunning butterflies and flowers.

Claire's Summer Loving!

Good Morning Splodgers,

I hope you are all well and enjoying the weather. Tom was busy busy busy finishing off new designs and also working on a new product :-) I feel I may of jinxed the weather when I thought of the theme 'Summer Loving' as although it is hot and stuffy the sun is hiding.

So, today we carry on with 'Summer Loving' and Claire Snowdon is showcasing her beautiful card.



'I started my project by embossing a piece of the Easy Ink card using the Oriental bamboo mask and the grand calibur.  I then coloured the card all over using squeezed lemonade distress ink and my SplodgeAway Mat.  I then overlaid the Oriental Bamboo mask, using the embossed areas to guide me, and used peacock feather distress ink around the outside of the frame and tumbled glass for the inner corners of the mask.  I cut the circle out of the middle of the card and then used a navy pro marker to create a border around the outside edge.

I took a piece of the High Res card and stamped the hydrangea image, from inkylicious.  I coloured the image with my promarkers and placed it in the centre of my 8x8 card blank.  I took my oriental bamboo inked card and placed a piece of acetate behind the circle aperture.  I layered this over the card blank using foam pads so it appears the hydrangea is outside a window.'

Thank you Claire for your lovely project, it has definately cheered me up! I also like the green and yellow coloured scheme, something abit different to yellow and orange.

Over on the SplodgeAway website Tom has added lots of new 8"x8" Masks.

Carol's Summer Loving.

Good Afternoon Splodgy Splodgers,

Sorry this is a late post, we only came back from our mini holiday yesterday and you would of thought I had been away for a month the amount of things that need doing. I know alot of people have had thunder and lightning storms so I hope you are all ok, we are still waiting for it here.

Tom has been busy at SplodgeAway HQ, he is currently designing lots of new masks for the website aswell as more new ideas for T.V. The machines are now plumbed into the new unit and I think everything should be back to normal soon.

Today Carol is showcasing her 'Summer Loving' project and if the sun isn't shining where you are it definately is here :-)

"Well as I write this the sun is still blazing in the sky, so it prompted the idea for this card. The design is quite simple, using the Dotty The Lot and Tread Plate Layout Masks. Basically the sun shape and its rays were cut out and coloured with Distress Stains...Worn Lipstick, Marmalade and Linen. I really wanted to get the feel of the heat from the scorching sun and think I managed it. Next the pieces were put through the Spellbinders to emboss and the raised areas highlighted in darker shades of the same inks..
The background card was white to start with but again a graduation of the inks from dark to light was blended with cut and dry and the wonderful Splodge Mat. The bottom rays of the sun were adhered to the base card and the uppermost ones raised on tiny foam pads for a bit of height. The little Sunshine was stamped and then..... I couldn't resist this little hula hula penguin enjoying the sunshine"

Summer Loving and Angela

What a Scorching Weekend!! So an appropriate theme for this week is

'SUMMER LOVING'

So the Splodgeway Design Team have been busy creating projects based on this theme. Be sure to check back all of this week and see the bright cheerful projects.

Today we are very excited to be showcasing Angela's project using the SplodgeAway Psychedelics Masks.

"When I saw the theme for this week I knew exactly what I was going to create. I had just been to a demo by the brilliant Sue Wilson and she created a card similar to this so that is where my inspiration came from. I had a couple of pieces of card left over from another project but not enough to create a complete background so I cut triangular strips and created the rays. I used the Psychedelic mask set and some wild honey distress ink on the Easy Ink card to create the paper originally."

Shell's Favourite Technique

It's the Weekend!!! Yippeee.......

I hope you have a fantastic weekend and the sun continues to shine...

Today Shell is finishing the 'Favourite Technique' week off with this stunning feminine card. It is so bright and cheerful.



Shell's Favourite Technique with the SplodgeAway Masks is to emboss or ink them and use them instead of a backing paper. Not only does it save you money but also allows you to create custom patterns.

Shell has used the 8"x8" Chicked Wire Texturizer Mask to create the stunning card.

Yvonne's Favourite Technique

Good Morning Everyone,

How are you all today? I hope you are well and are all looking after yourselves in this glorious weather.

Today we are carrying on the theme of 'Favourite Mask' and Yvonne is showcasing her beautiful  and elegant projects.

"My favourite technique using SplodgeAway Masks is embossing craft metal.  Sometimes I cover the embossed metal with Acrylic paint and then take a lot of the paint off.  This way the paint stays in the embossed bits of the metal.

On this occasion I decided to leave off the acrylic paint and have a clean look.

I made two embossed backgrounds and on the first card used a piece of ribbon and a Happy Birthday sentiment, this was then matted onto black card.

On the second card I added a piece of craft metal which was heat embossed in black and using an Oak Tree stamp.  All the elements were then mounted on to 8 x 8 Kraft card.

I've added a photo to show how deep the pattern is when using the SplodgeAway masks as an embossing tool."

Kathleen's Favourite Techniques.

WOW...how hot is this weather??? It is beautiful I could just do with a little bit more air! Our house is so stuffy even with all the windows open.

Today Kathleen is showcasing her project using her ' Favourite Technique' with the SplodgeAway Masks.


Kathleen has used the 'Penny Farthing' Mask from the 'Altered Art' Kit to produce this fanastic steampunk card. I love it!

Kathleen has ran the mask through the Calibur with embossing ink then heat embossed the imqge to create this amazing topper!

Claire Snowdon and her Favourite Technique

Good Morning Splodgers.

How are you today? Thank you for taking the time to come and visit the blog, we have viewers from all over the world...how exciting is that?

Today we are showcasing Claire Snowdon's favourite technique using the SplodgeAway Masks. Claire has chosen using the StenSkapes as her Favourite Technique and has used the 'Mad about Fishing' Stenskape to create this fabby card.




I started with a piece of the SplodgeAway Easy Ink Card, I spritzed this with water and then sprayed three different colours of Dylusions inks onto the card.  I blotted the card and left it to one side to dry.  I love creating backgrounds this way and often use several pieces of cards to mop up the colours with - every single one turns out differently.  The easy ink card is excellent for this technique as it takes lots water very well and the surface of the card still stays perfectly smooth.

Once my sunset type background was fully dry I used the Mad about Fishing Stenskape to build my scene up gradually.  I used black soot distress ink and cut and dry foam to add the silhouettes straight onto the background.  I then added the shadows in the water by flipping the stencil and sponging through very gently.  I double mounted the scene onto orange and red card before adding it to my card blank.  Just as a finishing touch I added a few ripples around the fisherman's rod using a fine black micron pen.

Jayne's Favourite Technique

Good Morning Splodgy Splodgers,

How are you all today? I would just like to take this opportunity to say THANK YOU to everybody who takes the time to read the blog and see what our amazing DT members are up too.

Today Jayne is going to 'tell you what her Favourite Technique' is.



Well it’s so hard to choose 1 technique to use with my SplodgeAway Masks as I love experimenting with loads of different techniques with them as they’re soooo versatile!
Anyway apart from Splodging loads of different mediums through them and embossing them I love dry embossing then rubbing off the raised parts with a fine sandpaper. It makes a lovely effect and is especially great for cards for males.


It can be very effective and don’t forget – it doesn’t have to be core-d-nations card you use, try experimenting with different card stock. As long as it has a different coloured core or back you should be able to use this technique. In the past I have used kraft card stock, card with pearlised coating on one side and a cheap cardstock with a white core, all successfully!
On this sample I used core-d'nations and stamped the image and sentiment with versamark and embossed it with fine white embossing powder.

Zoe's Favourite Technique

Good Morning Splodgers,

How was your weekend? I hope you all had a lovely time no matter what you did.




Today Zoe is going to share a mini tutorial based on her 'Favourite Technique' using the SplodgeAway 8" Large Mixed Floral Mask.



Here's what I used excluding the comb, I forgot to use it in the end lol!

How can I possibly have favourite technique with SplodgeAway products? Impossible! Like most crafters I love to experiment and what I like today will be yesterday's news tomorrow lol! So at the moment I'm loving playing and experimenting with my Gelli plate, and SplodgeAway masks are perfect for creating amazing background designs with it! Here is a very short tutorial if you check out my blog there is the full tutorial! http://zoeblingcards.blogspot.co.uk/



So you add Acrylic paint onto your Gelli plate and using a brayer to spread it over, it's wise to use less rather than more paint, I then added my flower mask and some bubble wrap and pressed down, I removed the bubble wrap and with the mask still in place I lifted my first print, then I removed the mask, added a different colour paint brayered again then placed the individual flowers roughly into place, bubble wrap again and then removed leaving the flowers in place and lifted another print, I repeated the process once more with a different colour paint and changing position of the flowers!

Once dry, which is very quick, I positioned the mask put the little flowers in place inked through using Distress inks. Here's the finished card! You do need to bare in mind when using the Gelli plate, it is not an exact science, it's very random so if you like neat and perfect your not gonna get it! And I don't clean my Gelli plate between use because you can get some very interesting designs from the old stuff!



The sentiment is from Visible Image! I hope you like the result? I'm very pleased how it turned out. Thank you for looking xx

Carol's Favourite Technique

Good Morning Splodgers,

How are you all? I hope the weather is as beautiful where you are as it is here. We are off to a birthday party today, Holly's first childrens party so we are very excited. At the end of the row of shops where we are based is a DIY shop ran by Carlos and it is his little boys party, Happy Birthday Zenon x
Today we are showcasing Carol Tadden's 'Favourite Technique' and what an amazing job she has done considering her son is poorly at the minute, so I would like to say a really big THANK YOU to Carol and also GET WELL SOON to her son.

Here I have used my favourite technique which is using the masks with metal to create a framed wall hanging. Some masks have been put through a Spellbinders machine and others have been created by hand. In all I have used 6 of my masks and distressed the whole using a chocolate brown paint dabber, swiped back so that the colour sits in the crevices created by the mask.

Alcohol inks in meadow and espresso were used to lightly colour the background. The other toppers were similarly made and attached onto the background

The stamps I have used are from Darkroom Door and I especially love the saying....hence the idea to use keys and keyholes.

Hoping you will all give this a try. The metal I used was heavy weight but similar effects can be used with regular kitchen foil!!.

WOW..What can I say Carol!! I want to make one of these and I love the fact that everytime you look at it you notice another element.....

Angela shares her favourites with us today:

'My favourite thing to do with my masks is to use them with my Gelli plate. The masks are so versatile, they are varied and they clean up really well afterwards. You can get some great effects with your masks by using the first and second prints off the plate.

Here is a card I made using the Hex-o-Star Mask and a topper from a CD by La Pashe'

So Angela enjoys using her masks with the Gelli Plate. All of the SplodgeAway Masks work alongside the Gelli Plate. I love Angela's card, I think the colours are just so cheerful.

Claire's Favourite Technique

I hope you are all well today..it's Friday......it's nearly the weekend...I'm still working on a caravan lol!

Not only is it the start of the weekend but it is also the start of a new theme on the SplodgeAway Blog,

'My Favourite Technique'

So our DT have been busy slaving away and over the next week members of the team are going to share their favourite technique using the SplodgeAway Mat and Masks that can all be purchased from the SplodgeAway Website.
Today Claire Chapman is sharing her favourite technique using the 12" Iron Fence Border.



Claire's favourite technique is embossing the masks with Versamark, run through the Grand Calibur then heat emboss. Claire has done this with the Iron Fence Border and I think it looks stunning. All of the colours tie in together so well.

Claire emailed this photograph over and I think the whole picture is stunning. Check out Claire's blog for more stunning designs, you won't be disappointed.



Why not try some heat embossing with your masks? Don't forget to move the mask and SplodgeAway Mat before heat embossing as the material doesn't like heat.

Rae and Jayne's Show Samples

I must really get on top of this blogging lark! Food poisoning and a busy baby have delayed me a few days so I am very sorry, especially when I have a queue of amazing projects from the DT Team.

Well I was just outside sorting out the washing (I feel like I should be singing..when down came a blackbird...) and I felt drips of rain so I don't know whethere it will be warm or rain today. I hope you all have something nice planned for the day.

Today Jayne and Rae are showcasing their beautiful prjects from the show.

Jayne's Samples:

Jayne has used the 'Grumpy Old Dog' and 'Party Animal' sentiment from the 'Altered Art' Kit to create these fab tag. I love the Splodged background, the colours are lovely.

Another element from the 'Altered Art' kit, the Grumpy Old Man Mask and 'Brickwork' Texturizer.

I love the whole 'mood' going on with this card..all spooly and mysterious....another fab piece from the 'Altered Art' kit.

Jayne has used an element from the 'Funky Fairy' Kit and embossed it with embossing ink through a machine and then heat embossed the fairy.

Jayne has used the 'Dressform' Mask to create this fab shop window scene. Love it! Jayne has also used the 6"x6" Fancy Lattice Mask to create the background of this card.

Rae's Samples:

Rae has used the 'Twit Twoo' Mask from the 'Altered Art' Kit to create 2 stunning owl cards, I just love how these 2 cards have the same mask but are soo different.

Once again same 'Dressform' Mask yet 2 totally different cards..
